Steve Parkin: The Vision That Changed Lives Beyond Logistics

The Vision That Changed Lives Beyond Logistics

We recently had the opportunity to meet with Steve Parkin, the former owner of Clipper Logistics, who sold the business to GXO Logistics for over £1 billion just two years ago.

While the scale of that deal marked a defining moment in UK logistics, it is Parkin’s earlier decisions particularly his willingness to back social innovation that continue to have a profound and lasting impact.

A Defining Decision in 2016

Back in 2016, Steve Parkin demonstrated remarkable foresight by giving TempusNovo the opportunity to prove what could be achieved through meaningful employment pathways for people leaving prison. At the time, this was far from a universally accepted idea.

Despite resistance from within his own board, Steve pushed ahead recognising both the human and commercial potential of the initiative.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Over 800 ex-offenders have since secured employment across the logistics sector

  • More than 500 of those roles were created within Clipper Logistics alone

What began as a bold and at times controversial decision has become a powerful example of how business can drive real social change.

A Culture That Continues

Importantly this ethos did not end with the Clipper acquisition, it has carried through into the organisation under the guidance of leaders such as Tony Mannix who was Steves CEO, whose strategic influence has helped and further maintain and evolve this inclusive approach within GXO.

The continuation of these values highlights how one leader’s vision can embed long-term cultural change within an organisation.

Life After Clipper

Following the acquisition:

  • Clipper Logistics was fully integrated into GXO in 2022 as part of the £1bn+ deal

  • Steve supported the transition before stepping down from GXO related directorships in January 2023

Today Steve has shifted his focus toward private investment and entrepreneurial ventures. His activities include:

  • Managing personal investments and holdings, including shares from the GXO purchase

  • Expanding his interests in horse racing and bloodstock

A Lasting Legacy

Steve Parkin’s story is not just about building and exiting a billion-pound logistics company. It is about recognising opportunity where others saw risk and having the conviction to act on it.

His early support for TempusNovo reflects the mind-set of an entrepreneur willing to challenge convention, disrupt norms, and invest in people as much as profit. The thousands of lives changed as a result stand as a powerful testament to that vision.

In many ways, that decision in 2016 may prove to be just as significant as the £1 billion deal that followed.

Thank you from everyone at TempusNovo Steve you're an Amazing person and we are proud to call you an ambassador !!
